Kay Odle is still healing from the passing of her husband, Rev. Larry Wayne Odle. He died on Thanksgiving Day of heart failure.
Kay Odle’s son Jesse Odle died in his cell at the Minnehaha County Jail on Wednesday morning – the same day that he was due to appear in court to face 14 charges related to the attack.
Jesse was set to be charged with the attempted murder of his mother, who suffered a broken nose, severe bruising, swelling, and a brain bleed.
According to the warden, employees were monitoring him on video and noticed that he was unresponsive at around 6:45 A.M. Police say that they are still investigating the incident, but have found no evidence that foul play was involved.
Despite how much trauma Kay has experienced in such a short time, as well as the physical damage, she is ready to speak openly about what she’s doing through. “I believe in bringing things into the light of day,” Kay said.
“There were points I was looking evil in the face and thought this is how I’m going to die,” Kay continued.
Kay revealed that her son began using drugs when he was 14. According to family members, he abused methamphetamines and bath salts.
But she said that she prefers to “remember the Jesse who was funny and smart and kind” – and that she focuses on the fact that he devoted his life to Jesus Christ.
