A 16-year-old Indiana boy remains in custody a day after his classmate—a 17-year-old pregnant ex-cheerleader—was reportedly found dead in a dumpster Sunday morning.
The South Bend Tribune reported that Aaron Trejo is facing possible murder charges for the death of Breana Rouhselang, who was a student manager of the Mishawaka High School football team and a former cheerleader. Police said Rouhselang was last seen at her home around midnight Saturday; her family reportedly called police at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, as they felt something was wrong.
Police reportedly gained a search warrant for Trejo and picked him up as they combed the immediate area for Rouhselang. Her body was discovered in a dumpster behind Pasquale Rulli’s restaurant, located a block from her home.
“It was a location of an opportunity to try to hide the victim, I would assume,” Assistant Commander Alex Aredt of the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit told WSBT.
The nature of the pair’s relationship remains under investigation. However, authorities said they believe Trejo is the person who killed Rouhselang and discarded her body in the dumpster.
The slain teen’s stepmother, Nicole Rouhselang, told the Tribune that she learned the 17-year-old was pregnant on Sunday.
Rouhselang said the last time she saw her stepdaughter was November 17, as the girl lived with her biological mother. The stepmother also said the teen recently had failing grades, indicating something was going on.
Deputy Prosecutor Chris Fronk confirmed to WSBT that the prosecutor’s office will formally file charges Monday morning. It’s unclear how the pregnant teen was killed as an autopsy is currently pending.
