Mississippi authorities found a male body on Monday morning believed to be a man who killed his mother and friend in a Tennessee home on Sunday.
According to a Facebook post by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, authorities located the body in the Vossburg area of Mississippi. The announcement came after a manhunt ensued for 22-year-old Casey James Lawhorn in connection with the deaths of his mother, Vi Lawhorn, and a friend, Avery Gaines. A coroner was at the scene at 10 a.m. and noted that the cause of death appeared to be from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The sheriff’s department that the body found is that of Casey Lawhorn. It’s still unclear how long he’d been deceased before authorities discovered him.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Lawhorn reportedly wrote that he used a “stolen .22 LR rifle calibre” to shoot both victims. He then reportedly stole heroin and cash from Gaines while sparing the lives of the pet cat and dog in the home.
“I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about murder, wondering what it feels like, but I’ve barely felt anything,” Lawhorn wrote in the Facebook post. “I didn’t hurt our dog or cat, in case anyone was wondering about the animals.”
